Dear CNAS Students, Faculty, and Staff,
 
The recent events that unfolded at our nation’s capitol were heartbreaking. The very place where our legislators enact laws and policies to protect and govern the people was under attack. As UC President Michael Drake shared in his statement, “The shocking display of lawless violence in the nation’s capital on January 6 was an horrific, and ultimately tragic, affront to our national dignity.” As a country, we value and defend our constitutional rights for the freedom of speech and to peacefully assemble, however, violent protests must be condemned.
 
Regardless of our political affiliations and ideology or the challenges we face during a global pandemic, the CNAS community remains steadfast in its commitment to our students, faculty, and staff. I couldn’t be more proud of the work each of you do. 
 
In a statement by Chancellor Wilcox, he said “Our country has experienced dark moments before and has persevered, and we will again.”  I couldn’t agree more. Your contributions to the college, the nation, and the world give me much hope that we will persevere and will continue to make great contributions to the life, physical, and agricultural sciences.
 
To echo President Drake, “We must stand together — regardless of political party or point of view — to condemn the violence on Wednesday and to uphold, protect and defend our bedrock values.” With that in mind, please know that CNAS supports you and stands with you.
