Celebrating the Sciences at UCR Homecoming

Join UC Riverside's College of Natural & Agricultural Sciences (CNAS) for Science Day at UCR, a day of science, discovery and community connection during UCR Homecoming! In addition to CNAS alumni, students, faculty, staff... community members from the Inland Empire, prospective students, families, and the general public are all welcome to Science Day at UC Riverside!

Science Day starts at 9 a.m. with the UCR application workshop. High school seniors and transfer students applying to UC Riverside can attend the application workshop led by current UCR students from our CNAS Science Ambassadors program. Location: Student Success Center (SSC) 329

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Science Day continues with a welcome from CNAS Dean Peter Atkinson who will share the evolution of the sciences at UCR and the broader impact of the college’s research, education and engagement. Following Dean Atkinson is Stephanie Dingwall, CNAS Divisional Dean of Student Academic Affairs, who will moderate our CNAS student panel and alumni panel highlighting their experiences from different perspectives. Lunch will be served, with opportunities to connect and network with members of the CNAS community throughout the program. Location: Student Success Center (SSC) 329

From 1 to 4 p.m., guests can experience science in action through science demonstrations presented by the UCR Department of Physics and Astronomy. CNAS Science Ambassadors will also lead tours of the sciences at UCR giving visitors an opportunity to explore the people, programs and places that make up UCR’s science community. Location: Tours will start at the CNAS Booth in the Homecoming Festival area.

Additionally, between 1 to 4 p.m., since UCR is also celebrating Homecoming that day, everyone is welcome to participate in all the UCR Homecoming activities. Experience college and department interactive booths; mix and mingle with the UCR community; and enjoy an afternoon filled with music, an activity zone, opportunity drawings, and more!  And be sure to stop by the CNAS booth to play the CNAS Science Beaker Ring Toss Game—a science-themed twist on the classic carnival game! Concluding the homecoming festivities is the UCR Men’s Homecoming Basketball Game at 4:30 p.m. at the UCR Student Recreation Center Arena (SRC). Tickets are $15 and require advance purchase through UCR Athletics. The first 100 community members who attended Science Day and come watch the UCR Men’s Homecoming Basketball Game (vs Denver) will receive a special CNAS Science Scotty Bear Rally Towel! Together, these activities will bring the community together at UCR – welcoming alumni home and inviting new generations to discover and celebrate the sciences at UC Riverside.
